This is an important approach--strengthening the connections between subsistence farmers in order to better increase their ability to farm well and profit from their farms. Thanks for submitting this idea. I have a few questions that perhaps can help strengthen this proposal.
1. Is your focus specifically on Ghana? I agree that this seems to be in line with the Ministry of Agriculture's poverty alleviation strategy. Have you been able to get a commitment from them about this cooperative?
2. Also you identify a lot of problems that could be fixed with better information--knowledge of possible buyers to reduce post harvest losses etc. How do you see the cooperation between subsistence farmers addressing these issues? How would this cooperative ensure greater information for subsistence farmers about potential buyers?
3. How would you build a cooperative relationship between subsistence farmers all over the country, sometimes growing different crops? At the heart of this idea is the mobilization and cooperation between oftentimes economically isolated subsistence farmers. How would you develop this? How would the leadership of this initiative work? I would suggest that perhaps regionally/locally based leadership rather than a centralized moded emanating from the Min. of Agric. might be useful to consider.
In other words, how would you flesh out phases 3 and 4 in the implementation plan?
