This group has done and continues to do critical work re-building schools and much needed wells. Having lived in this country, I am well aware of the commitment it takes to accomplish such efforts. By partnering with the communities they have been able to make great strides and I am personally grateful that there are people like this who really do care.

Those of us who have worked in Sierra Leone and understand the hardships that need to be overcome in order to have a positive impact, know that the Schools for Salone team is accomplishing long lasting achievements, not only in the physical sense such as construction of schools and clean water wells in communities that have been passed over by government programs, but in building a culture of accomplishment in these communities upon which future additional success is being built. In the US, the Schools for Salone team has involved thousands of people through education and cultural activities such as lectures and concerts by a Sierra Leonean author and Sierra Leonean entertainers – mobilizing the best of Sierra Leone – to energize donors and volunteers, not only in the US, but also in Sierra Leone. Success breeds success; accomplishment leads to further accomplishments. The Schools for Salone team has proven again and again their dedication to this collaborative effort. Their hard work and determination deserve to be recognized.

This is a worthy project for a number of reasons: schools that encourage teaching both boys and girls, The children (many children) benefit with a comfortable structure for learning, The country will benefit with new leaders one day steering the country to a better future. With the water wells the focus is on learning hopefully with out the distraction of poor health due to water born decease, The community takes part in the construction and ownership of the project.
I like the prospect of the long term payback with this project, both in education and health.

I agree with many of the posters here. As a parent with a disabled child, autism to be exact, my focus right now is to help my son learn to read and write without help. Once he has that down, he's set to learn and grow no matter how "recovered" he becomes, or doesn't. Education is the key to a lifetime of hope. And every child in the world deserves this opportunity.

Education is known to do more to elevate the health and well being of a society than almost any other investment. Schools for Salone has built five schools with almost no resources but is exhausting its ability to continue to operate on a shoestring. It needs support to continue to build on its success of expanding schools, construction jobs and government participation in education. The demand for new schools is an indication that SFS has hit a nerve of collaboration in an area of great need. Their ROI on the funding they get is impressive.
