Active NGO Collaboration

Collaboration amongst NGOs is more effective than non-collaboration amongst NGOs. Collaboration minimizes duplicate humanitarian efforts and increases the effectiveness of smaller organizations. View

Africa Edu Campaigners

Your endorsement means alot to the team. We want you to let us know that you are part of us and care much about Africa and the world. We are a team of young youth with diverse backgrounds and lines of work driving two cars from Mbita-Kenya, across Southern Africa to the West Coast of Namibia and back again (June - August 2010), projecting live football games on a retractable screen along the journey (www.educampaigners.org) . Every evening throughout the duration of the tournament, with the help of Digital Satellite Television and a projector, we will be screening the 2010 World Cup live at different points along our route down the southern half of the continent. Before every live game we shall screen AIDS & HIV awareness videos supplied by UN-AIDS and when possible, by local NGO's dealing with the matter. We will be meeting many HIV patients and counselling them. Thank you for endorsing the Edu Campaigner Idea! View

iDEA: Re-Designing Africa's (Ox)-Powered Farm Tools

The main goal of our contribution is to provide an idea on how to improve Africa's farming tools. By incorporating materials that are already available in local communities we hope to make these tools more obtainable. We also wanted to find out if there were any benefits of using donkeys rather than oxen for draft power. View

Introduction of Permaculture to Schools and Communities in Southern Ethiopia

SUMMARY Konso is an area in Southern Ethiopia which is prone to food insecurity and has been suffering drought the past two consecutive years. Permaculture (PC) is a design system for integrated and sustainable management of ecological resources, which allows communities to effectively manage their land and produce for their needs while benefiting the function of the ecological systems which support them, rather than degrading them. The 72h Permaculture Design Course (PDC), the standard comprehensive introduction to PC, equips a person with all necessary skills to begin practicing Permaculture Design, and includes theory, practical and participatory group design exercises. In this project we propose to introduce Permaculture into a number of schools in the Konso area by (1) giving the 72h PDC to 2 teachers per school and producing designs for management of the school grounds during the group design exercises (2) implementing Permaculture in the school compounds through community mobilisation (of parents and children), according to the designs produced by the teachers (3) following up on implementation with the monitoring and evaluation programs outlined below.  View
