Tackling Deforestation and Climate Change in Rural Households
NGOs can continue leading the way by empowering rural households in constructing biogas tanks. These biogas tanks will not only improve their wellbeing but will reduce deforestation and climate change
In the past few decades, the word deforestation was common in many communities and still remains popular with each day that passes especially when we are discussing issues that concern our environment. However, since the coining of this term not much has been done by our governments to reduce deforestation. There has been more talk and less action in helping both rural and urban dwellers who use firewood and charcoal to meet their daily energy demands.
As we all know deforestation leads to desertification. Now desertification and deforestation seem to be replaced by climate change. Whatever the term is, in Africa, deforestation has led to climate change because most households rely on firewood and charcoal for their cooking needs. Other than that, people sell firewood and charcoal to earn a living. Deforestation and climate change would have been a thing of the past if only our governments were committed to the fight. Nevertheless, NGOs can continue leading the way by empowering rural households in constructing biogas tanks. These biogas tanks will not only improve their wellbeing but will reduce deforestation and climate change.
