Project background
We continue to register food insecurity in our County and Africa at large. Little do we imagine that bees have alot to contribute to declining agricultural production. It is time to begin domesticating bees near farmed crops and fruits rather than letting nature take its course. Bees are a source of income from sale of honey and the by products of honey like wax is used in manufacturing a range of products including medicine, bees contribute to extensive pollination which leads to increased yields and the the list is endless.
Project Justification
As Let Us Save Uganda, alocal Community Based Organisation, we have seen it eminate to design a project about bee farming that will introduce bee farming to 1,000 farmers in two sub counties here in Uganda Kabale District . We have our budget estimate of $25000 to do this. We need your support, guidance, introducing us to potential friends, researchers and well wishers among others.
Project activities include:
1. Mobilizing communities for participation in project activities in partnership with local council leaders, implementing partners and project implementation staff.
2. Mobilizing other implementing partners with emphasis on Community Based Organisations doing related work and based in proposed implementing area.
3. Facilitating formation of groups that are all inclusive as project beneficiaries and to facilitate project implementation. .
4. Undertaking skill training programmes to equip beneficiaries in modern and up-to-date skills related to bee - keeping as a commercial enterprise.
5. Conducting school visits with an aim to carry out training sessions among school students/pupils passing on to them the prospects associated with bee-keeping while at the same time building their capacity as ambassadors for project activities.
6. Sourcing for modern bee hives, protection gear and other equipment including their distributing to formed groups of trained farmers.
7. Conducting follow up activities intentioned to offer extension services to beneficiaries at each stage.
8. Undertaking knowledge translations activities for best learned practices developed during project implementation.
9. Administer research instruments to test study hypothesis, analyze data and write reports
Target groups
The proposed project will be all inclusive aimed at benefiting youth, men, women and disabled. To ensure this, team leader, project manager, field officers, development workers and community mobilizers will ensure that for a each group of beneficiary farmers formed at any level, equal consideration is given to all population groups, all gender without exclusion, discrimination or favor.
Project benefits are projected to be both direct and indirect, with a multiplier effect. These will range from honey, wax, and cash from the sale of honey and other products, environment conservation, increased pollination and most important modern knowledge pertaining bee-keeping gained from planned trainings workshops, and through information and knowledge sharing within formed farmer groups.
Capability
LUSU as an organisation is well suited with trained and self motivated staff to undertake this project. In the proposed project implementation area, there is a net work of farmers registered with LUSU and are willing to embrace the project to ensure sustainability.
Together we can sustain for the future. Be blessed!!
