Project Title
Transporting farm products with Luo –Jian a relieve to the rural African woman farmer.
Problem Statement
Ve Agbome is a farming community located in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region of Ghana and is about 25 kilometers from Hohoe the District capital. It serves as one of the major source of supply of fresh Okro and Cassava dough to Hohoe and even the Regional Capital Ho
With an estimated farming population of about 3000, women constitute over 80% of those in the okro and cassava dough production. Other Crops cultivated are rice, yam and palm plantations .Only the palm and yam plantations are men dominated even though carting these products from the farms some of which are distances over 8 kilometers are done by the women.
To bear the drudgery of combining work on their farms, harvesting the products which are all manual with that of carrying head loads of these products home with some of them carrying babies at their backs is asking too much from our women folks.
Solution
Having observed this problem over the years and thinking of solutions I was very happy to have seen a motor cycle with a trailer manufactured by the Chinese and on sale in the country. This can be suitable for carting goods from the farms to the village since it can ply the foot paths that lead to these farms.
It is therefore the desire of True Light Movement Organization to train some of the Out of school youth for operating and maintenance of these Motor Cycles and acquire some for the community.
The women would be advised to use this service for a token fee that would be used to maintain and pay for the service providers.
Got a suggestion on how to make this idea even better?
